Shrouded in secrecy and immense anticipation, GPT-5 was suddenly released on August 7th (local time), setting a new benchmark for the AI industry while, at the same time, facing some unexpected growing pains. This is my analysis of the key changes and the story behind them.

Disruptive Innovation and Early Stumbles

The release of GPT-5 isn't just an upgrade; it’s a complete re-architecture of how AI models function.

  1. The 'Smart Router' System: Instead of being a single, monolithic model, GPT-5 is a unified system composed of specialized models: a base model, a reasoning model, and a mini model. A 'smart router' acts as its core, analyzing a user's request in real-time and routing it to the most suitable model. This seamless process allows users to get the optimal experience—a fast answer for simple queries or a deeply reasoned response for complex ones—without having to switch modes manually.
